Storytelling with Cats
Kitty features
Letâs look a little more closely at how many different kitty features we can create. Weâll start with those peepers. The eyes on a cat can reveal so much about their mood and the focus of their attention. They can range from a round shape to slits to completely closed, and everything in between.
Here are examples of what you can do with kitty eye shapes. Try to capture a mood. Use an upside-down U shape for a sleepy cat or a right-side-up U shape for a happy fur friend.
Try a big circle or an almond shape and discover whether they look cute or sinister. Kitties will tell you much with their eyes. How many moods can you create?
See if you can make thirty different eye shapes! You will find examples on this page and throughout this book. Check out what other artists are doing, and make up your own shapes as well.
Trying out a lot of shapes will give you plenty to work with when you are painting cats. Variety is the key to making artwork interesting, so really mix it up as you go.
